The Maratona dles Dolomites is one of the most beautiful, challenging and well-organised one-day cycling marathons in the world. To celebrate the 2018 edition, helmet-maker KASK has released a limited edition of its Valegro helmet.
Maratona dles Dolomites
This event was first organised in 1987 and attracted 166 riders from Italy, Germany and Austria who rode a challenging route through the Dolomite mountains in northeastern Italy. Since then it has become highly organised and is actually more like a lottery: in 2017, 33,500 riders tried to register for only 9,000 places!
The route traverses seven major climbs (called Passos in Italian) which cross the Italian Dolomite mountains: Pordoi, Sella, Campolongo, Falzaergo, Gardena, Valparola en Giau. The most challenging route is 138 kilometres long and includes 4,230 metres of elevation gain. There are also two shorter routes of 106 kilometres (3,130 metres of elevation gain) and 55 kilometres with 1,780 metres of elevation gain.
KASK Valegro MDD
Each year, the organisers of the Maratona have a theme for the event and in 2018 it is “equilibrium”. KASK is a proud partner of the event’s organisers and the special edition helmet is a celebration of that relationship. While gadget-spotters will recognise the helmet as part of the Team Sky equipment, the helmet also won an iF Design Award in 2018.
The designers underline the partnership by adding the event’s colours to the otherwise black-all-over look. The helmet is available in shops worldwide, as well as being on sale during the event in Italy.
We would be only too pleased to take part in this legendary Gran Fondo and as far as we’re concerned this limited edition helmet would make a pretty good souvenir…
