For most cycling fans, this is a familiar image: eight riders under the awning of the team bus, warming up for the race on their home trainers. It’s also not uncommon to see fans hanging around the buses to check out their favourite riders, which can be an unwelcome distraction. So, in order to keep concentration, riders often have their headphones on. Ever been curious as to what they’re listening to?
Michael Storer
Michael Storer is one of three youngsters riding for Team Sunweb in this year’s Vuelta a España. This is Storer’s first Grand Tour, and at only 20 years old he is certainly still wet around the ears.
The Australian (one of several Ozzies at Team Sunweb) rode for two years in junior competitions. Before Australian road race cycling team Mitchelton-Scott took Storer under its wings, the youngster had already won medals at both Oceanian and international levels.
Since 2018 Storer has ridden as a professional cyclist with Team Sunweb. He is hoping to develop his strengths in time trials and climbing. Winning races is a dream of his, but he doesn’t have his eye on any specific Grand Tours—although he hopes he’ll do well in Italy, thanks to the warmer climate and steep climbs.
To get himself mentally ready for the match, Storer has put together a special playlist. And because he is currently riding in the Vuelta a España, he put together a special Spanish-language list. ¡Vamos!
