There’s a chill in the air and the nights are drawing in. This can only mean one thing: the cyclo-cross season is about to start again, and it might be time to jazz up your looks. Those ever-elegant people at sportswear and lifestyle brand Rapha have released a new cyclo-cross clothing line for men and women featuring the date 1901, the year the sport was founded.
The geometric patterns may not be to everyone’s taste, but you will certainly stick out from the cyclo-cross crowd with this outfit—providing you can see the pattern through the mud, that is.
There are both long-sleeve and short-sleeve jerseys, both made of modern technical fabrics with a rather loud pattern. But for those who favour a more understated style, there’s an old-school variant: a black, long-sleeved jersey made from a merino wool blend, with a modest emblem on the chest. The long-sleeved jerseys are priced at around €155, while short-sleeved jerseys are about €100.
As we have come to expect from the people at Rapha, there is a technical aspect in the design which is specifically adapted to cyclo-cross: each jersey has a shoulder pad that is very helpful to ease the pain of carrying your bike during the tougher sections of a race.
But if you don’t really feel like cycling during the event, there is also the ultimate fan gear for cheering on your favourite sportsperson from the sidelines. It’s the Cross Bobble Hat, also made with merino wool—a snip at €55!
