More and more women are riding racing bikes these days (thank goodness!) and brands in the bike world are catching on to this trend. This often results in great PR and high-quality accessories. The Rapha Souplesse Aero Jersey Women’s 100 edition certainly fits that bill.
This is a shirt with more that just an attractive design: the materials are the high quality which we come to expect from Rapha. This is exactly the same kit as is worn by the CANYON/SRAM-team (one of the professional women’s teams). The combination of smooth fabrics on the front and rough textures on the back are designed to cut through the air faster than the average shirt. They say it’s their fastest kit ever.
This particular piece of cycle clothing art is limited edition, and has been released to celebrate the annual Rapha Women’s 100 event. This event inspires women to do a 100-km ride, and is a celebration of the women’s cycling community. Indeed, the word community is indeed what it’s all about: taking place on September 15th this year, the idea is that as many women as possible will go the distance together.
Last year, over 10,000 women took part—according to the registration form, at least. It’s not a fixed route or an organised route around a city, it’s a freestyle event. Just get your girlfriends together and ride.
Once you’ve decided where you’re going, simply register your event and join in. Hopefully Rapha will encourage even more women to ride the 100 this year. Interested in the shirt? Well, it is Rapha, so we’re not talking budget here: the aero version of the shirt costs 130 pounds, which is roughly €150.
